Receptions honor Pasco student artists

LAND O’LAKES, FL – For the next two Wednesdays, young artists from Pasco County will be on hand during receptions that highlight their work.

The All American Youth Art Walk student artist receptions will take place on Wednesday, March 30 at the West Pasco Judicial Center, 7530 Little Road in New Port Richey, and Wednesday, April 6 at the Robert D. Sumner Judicial Center, 38053 Live Oak Ave., in Dade City. Both receptions will be from 4 to 6 p.m.

The idea for the Art Walks came when the district’s fine arts coordinator, Tom Viking, was looking for a way to increase the visibility of fine arts from Pasco County Schools. As the idea spread around the community, Laurie Ansorage, the office administrative assistant from the Pasco County Clerk & Comptroller’s Office, came up with the idea of displaying artwork around the county.

Three Pasco County art teachers – Michelle Kurasz, Donna Law, and Michelle Vasko – spearheaded the efforts to collect artwork from 23 students while the Clerk & Comptroller’s office purchased frames.

Although the artwork will be on display for a year, the student artist receptions are meant to celebrate the artists and bring attention to their work.

Music at the events will be performed by students from Pasco County Schools music programs during both receptions. Cake and punch will be provided courtesy of Florida West Coast Credit Union.
