Tim Tebow Makes Prom Dreams Come True for Special Needs Kids
His foundation is footing the bill for 45 simultaneous prom events, including two in the Bay area.

Former NFL player and Florida Gator Tim Tebow isn’t throwing touchdown-making passes at the moment, but he is scoring big points with special needs kids across the country.
The quarterback’s own nonprofit, the Tim Tebow Foundation, is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year by making sure youngsters with special needs, age 16 and older, have their own “Night to Shine.”
The prom-like celebration is set to take place at 45 different locations across 26 different states and three separate countries on Feb. 13 – just in time for Valentine’s Day. The massive, multi-site event is expected to serve more than 7,000 people with special needs.

“It’s not just me, it’s not just our foundation, but it is all 45 churches and volunteers in 26 states, three countries, coming together to show love and make a difference in more than 7,000 lives,” Tebow was quoted in a media release about the event as saying. “That is what is special about this; Jesus is going to shine on this night, the churches are going to shine and the special needs community will shine on this night.”

The foundation has dedicated about $600,000 to sponsor the 45 proms, according to the media release. The tab includes tuxes and gowns for those in need, limousine rides, hair and makeup stations, food and more.
Prom locations in Florida include Odessa’s Trinity New Life Church, Melbourne’s Calvary Chapel and Lakeland’s North Lakeland Presbyterian Church.
Tebow, 27, launched his foundation in 2010 with a mission to “bring faith, hope and love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need,” the Jacksonville-based organization’s website states.
Aside from the Heisman Trophy-winner’s sports-related headlines, Tebow made waves at Christmas time by helping pay off layaway accounts for families in the Orlando area.
