Possible Midway Shopping Center Development Has Largo Residents Buzzing

Largo Patch reported last week about the possibility of a big box retailer such as Target, Costco or Kohl's moving into the largely vacant Midway Shopping Center on the corner of Missouri Avenue and Rosery Road.

While officials from neither the city or the 7.65-acre property would confirm such speculation, the article generated a ton of response from residents, both here and on our Facebook page.

The reactions run the gamut from excitement at the prospect of a Super Target moving in diagonally across from the future site of a Super Walmart, to pleas for no more big box retailers cluttering up the area.

Georgia Wildrick, via Facebook: "Better than it looking like a blighted area. Walmart would have competition, yeah!!!!!!!!!"

Donna Givens, via Facebook: "Some people love Target, some people love Walmart. Imagine the new jobs that will be added to our Community, it's win-win."

Joe Johnson: "FINALLY WE NEED THEM PLACE CLEANED UP AND FILLED UP TO LOOK GOOD. WE ALSO NEED A WAWA OR THORTNONS ON MISSOURI SOMEWHERE. TIRED OF THEM OLD GAS STATIONS. THEY HAVE NOTHING."

Jay Lesher, via Facebook: "That would be great competition For the Super Walmart moving in caddy corner from there."

Melissa A.: "They are smart to renovate these portions in these areas. Missouri has come a long way over the years, just need to keep cleaning it up and got on track with Clearwater's economics."
