Woman Dies In Florida Keys Following Snorkeling Excursion
A 61-year-old woman died after becoming unresponsive during a snorkeling excursion off the Florida Keys.

KEY WEST, FL — A 61-year-old woman died Sunday after becoming unresponsive during a snorkeling excursion off the Florida Keys.
"A Station Key West rescue crew arrived on scene and transferred the individual and a family member to awaiting EMS at the Coast Guard pier," according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The crew of the Pacific Fury attempted to save the woman by performing CPR about eight miles east of Tavernier Key, but she was later pronounced dead at Lower Keys Hospital, the Coast Guard said.

In an unrelated incident, a 21-year-old woman was rescued Sunday when she went scuba diving off the Florida Keys.
"A 21 year-old diver came to the surface unconscious and not breathing, but became conscious and responsive when brought into the boat," the Coast Guard said.

Guardsmen were alerted by the dive boat operator of the Sea Star around 10:30 a.m. Sunday. An emergency crew met the Sea Star at John Pennenkamp, Key Largo
The Coast Guard said the woman was responsive but remained at Mariners Hospital for observation.
"Diving is a popular sport in the keys, but it can come at a price," observed Petty Officer 3rd Class Steven Evans, watchstander, Sector Key West. "It is important to check your dive equipment, follow all dive precautions, and if going out on a charter, communicate any medical concerns with the operator."
