2 South FL Men Accused In Killing Of Haitian President: Report

Haitian authorities arrested 2 South FL men they say participated in the assassination of Haiti's President Jovenel Moïse, reports said.

HAITI — Haitian authorities have arrested two South Florida men they say participated in the assassination of Haiti’s President Jovenel Moïse.

Moïse was assassinated as his home outside the country’s capital, Port-au-Prince, early Wednesday. His wife was also injured in the attack.

The Haitian National Police said there were 28 suspects in the assassination. This includes 26 Colombians and two Haitian Americans who lives in South Florida — James J. Solages, 35, and Vincent Joseph, 55 — the Miami Herald reported.

Solages, who lived in Tamarac and attended Fort Lauderdale High School, once worked in security for the Canadian Embassy in Haiti, reports said.

He earned an associate degree in information technology from the Florida Career College and formed a maintenance and repair company, as well as a South Florida charity aimed at empowering children from the neighborhood where he grew up. He also worked as a plant operations manager for a company called Senior Lifestyle north of Fort Lauderdale, the Herald said.

Less is known about Joseph, who Haitian authorities said lived in Miami, reports said.
