3 Hurt In Small-Plane Crash Near Miami

Three people were hurt, one seriously, when a single-engine​ Piper PA-28 airplane crashed after takeoff from Miami Executive Airport.

MIAMI, FL — Three people were hurt, including at least one seriously, when a single-engine Piper PA-28 airplane crashed shortly after takeoff Monday from Miami Executive Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

"The aircraft is in a field on airport property," explained Kathleen Bergen of the FAA, who said that the agency was on its way to the scene to begin its investigation Monday.

The crash occurred between 9:38 a.m. and 9:40 a.m., shortly after the fixed-wing aircraft took off from Miami Executive Airport. The airport is located at 12800 SW 145th. Ave.

"When crews arrived they saw a small aircraft that had made an emergency landing," said Erika Benitez of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

Benitez said one of the patients was taken to the county's south trauma center while anther was taken to a local hospital. The third person was treated on the scene and released.

Bergen said the National Transportation Safety Board will determine the probable cause of the accident.

According to FAA records, the plane is registered to Osorio Aviation Corp. of Miami-Dade County.
