$50, Five Friends, One Weeklong Stay On A Private Island

Unbelievably, a stay with five friends on this private island costs less than a hotel.

Talk about social distance. "Friendsgiving Island" off the coast of Marathon, Florida, is up for grabs at a deep discount from Nov. 14 to 21.

MARATHON, FL — You don't have to be Kim Kardashian to surprise your closest inner circle with a trip to a private island. You just have to be the first to book this sweet deal in Florida.

Hotels.com's "Friendsgiving Island" — a completely private island off the southern tip of Florida — is up for grabs the week before Thanksgiving, and surprisingly, a trip there won't break the bank.

On the island sits a pool and spacious veranda, kayaks, paddle boards, a boat dock, a helicopter launch pad and, of course, a 5,000 square-foot home that comfortably houses up to six people.

As Will Smith might say, the discount is rare.

A stay on the island between Nov. 14 and 21 is marked down to $2,000 for a weeklong stay. Show up with five friends, and you'll pay only $47 a night. And, you'll be home in time for Thanksgiving dinner with your mainland friends and family.

A stay on the island typically costs $1,400 a night, or $233 each for a group of six. What's more, a regular stay doesn't come complete with a private chef.

That's right, Hotels.com said it's providing a private one-night chef to prepare a Thanksgiving dinner "so you can eat, drink and be thankful without having to worry about who will cook the turkey!" according to a news release.

Booking for the private island opened on Tuesday and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. It's unclear if the island has been booked as of publication.
