Alan Cominsky Named Chief Of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue
Alan Cominsky, a 25-year veteran of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue has been named to lead the agency.

MIAMI, FL — Alan Cominsky, a 25-year veteran of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue has been named to lead the agency. Cominsky has served as interim chief since December.
"He has proven himself to be a dedicated professional throughout his 25 years of service to the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department," Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said in announcing the appointment Monday. "Chief Cominsky has demonstrated outstanding leadership, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic."
Since joining the agency in 1995, Cominsky has held a number of key positions, including assistant fire chief for Technical and Support Services, MDFR’s Fire Marshal, division chief of Fire Prevention, division chief of South Operations, division chief of North Operations and Hazardous Materials battalion chief.

"He rose through the ranks of the organization and has held every civil service rank, including firefighter, fire lieutenant, fire captain and battalion chief," the agency said.
He now leads the sixth-largest accredited fire and rescue department in the southeastern United States.

The agency began as a single-unit fire patrol in 1935 and now includes 70 fire stations that cover an area of some 1,883 square miles, including all unincorporated areas of Miami-Dade County and 29 municipalities.
Cominsky leads 2,550 employees, including more than 2,000 firefighters who are trained in both fire suppression and emergency medical response.
A South Florida native and graduate of Southwest Senior High School, Cominsky holds a Master's Degree in public administration from Barry University as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in public administration from Barry. He holds an Associate Degree in science and an Associate Degree in arts from Miami-Dade Community College.
"Chief Cominsky continues to build upon a decade’s worth of instructional experience at the college level as an adjunct instructor with Miami-Dade College in the Emergency Medical Services Program," the agency said.
Married with three children, Cominsky is a member of the National Fire Protection Association, Florida Fire Chiefs Association, Florida Fire Marshals Association and the Florida Officers of Miami-Dade.
