Countywide Transit Services Will Stop Running At 2 P.M. Sunday

Starting at 2 p.m., Miami-Dade County will stop all transit services, including evacuations, ahead of Tropical Storm Eta.

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — Miami-Dade County’s Department of Transportation and Public Works will stop all transit services, including the Metrobus evacuation service, about 2 p.m. on Sunday in preparation for Tropical Storm Eta, the county said in the news release.

Metrobus, Metrorail, Metromover and Special Transportation Service operations stop no less than three hours before the county Emergency Operations Center estimated the arrival of tropical storm-force winds.

The county declared a state-of-emergency Friday night. Officials also announced on Friday that they would likely start locking down all drawbridges on the Miami River and the Intercoastal Waterway Sunday morning ahead of the higher winds.

During severe storm conditions, motorists are encouraged to stay off the roads as much as possible, according to the news release. Those who must drive should make sure their vehicle equipment, such as brake lights and wipers, are working properly. Proper tire tread depth and inflation is also important in ensuring good traction on wet roads. Be sure to fill up your vehicle’s gas tank early to avoid long lines.
