MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — Daniella Levine Cava has claimed Miami-Dade County's mayoral race after Esteban Bovo conceded, WSVN 7News Miami reported. Though the results are unofficial, it looks as though she'll be the first woman to serve as the county's mayor.

Both Levine Cava and Bovo previously served as county commissioners. She represents District 8, while he holds the District 13 seat.

Levine Cava congratulated her opponent, who she said called her around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday to concede, for running "a very strong campaign."

She thanked her supporters on Twitter Tuesday night.

"Tonight, we made history together," she wrote. "There’s no place in the world like Miami-Dade. I’m honored to be the next Mayor of such a vibrant and special place."

In an emailed statement, Florida Democratic Party Chair Terrie Rizzo said, "I am so thrilled that Daniella Levine Cava will be the next mayor of Miami. Not only will she be the first female mayor of Miami Dade, but also, she will be the innovative, compassionate leader this County needs. I cannot wait to see the phenomenal work she does as mayor to help uplift every member of this community, combat the climate crisis, improve transportation, and so much more."
