Florida Confirmed Coronavirus Cases Rise To 54,497
Florida health officials reported 49 new coronavirus deaths Friday. as the number of cases rose to 54,497.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported 49 new coronavirus deaths Friday and 187 new hospitalizations as the number of coronavirus cases rose to 54,497 throughout the state. The case total represents an increase of 1,212 new cases over the previous 24-hour period.
Gov. Ron DeSantis was in Boca Raton Friday to announce six additional testing sites at Home Depot and Publix stores. Each of the test sites will conduct up to 100 tests per day.
“Accessible COVID-19 testing statewide has been a top priority of my administration during the state’s response to COVID-19,” DeSantis said. “We know how important it is to ensure every Floridian has the opportunity to be tested for COVID-19 and I’m looking forward to working with Home Depot and Publix as we expand this availability even further.”

Florida's death toll from the virus rose to 2,413 as of Friday. Twenty-one Florida counties reported 49 new deaths compared to 45 new deaths Thursday, 61 deaths Wednesday, seven deaths Tuesday, 15 new deaths Monday, four deaths Sunday, 43 deaths Saturday and 59 new deaths last Friday.
Miami-Dade County reported 16 new deaths. Broward County reported one new death. Palm Beach County reported eight new deaths.

Escambia County reported four new deaths. Hillsborough County reported three new deaths. Pinellas County reported two new deaths.
Union County reported its first death from the virus. Calhoun County reported one new death as did Charlotte County, Duval County, Gadsden County, Hendry County, Highlands County, Jackson County, Lee County, Manatee County, Marion County, Orange County, Polk County, St. Johns County and Washington County.
A total of 30,381 cases — or some 56 percent of Florida's total confirmed cases — were in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.
Miami-Dade reported 17,641 confirmed cases of the virus as of Friday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 6,975 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes West Palm Beach, reported 5,765 cases.
Florida had a 5.5 percent positive test rate for the virus based on a total of 984,160 tests that had been administered as of Friday. The number of hospitalizations in Florida increased to 9,982 from 9,795 a day earlier.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 2,069 cases as of Friday. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 1,945 cases.
