Florida Reports Lowest Number of New Deaths In Months
Florida health officials reported 14 new deaths on Sunday, the lowest one-day increase in months.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — Florida health officials reported 14 new coronavirus deaths on Sunday, the lowest one-day increase in months.
Health officials reported 2,583 new cases of the virus as Sunday marked Florida's 18th day of daily positivity under 10 percent while officials reported a new statewide positive case total of 621,586 up from 619,003 a day earlier.
The daily positivity rate is calculated by taking the number of people who test PCR-or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.

The total number of deaths in Florida rose to 11,119 Sunday from 11,105 a day earlier. Florida's most recent one-day record of 276 reported deaths was set on Aug. 11. Health officials reported another 144 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in Florida.

Florida's overall positivity rate was at 13.49 percent Sunday based on 4,606,568 total tests.
Charlotte County reported one fewer death on Sunday while six of Florida's 67 counties reported new deaths.
The death total compares to 148 new deaths Saturday, 94 new deaths Friday (state health officials reported 89), 135 new deaths Thursday, 156 new deaths Wednesday (health officials reported 153), 183 new deaths Tuesday, 72 new deaths Monday, 52 new deaths on Sunday (health officials reported 51), and 106 new deaths last Saturday.
Here's a breakdown of the counties reporting new deaths:
- Marion County reported five new deaths.
- Miami-Dade County reported four new deaths.
- Hillsborough County reported two new deaths.
- Pasco County reported one new death.
- Brevard County reported one new death.
- Okaloosa County reported one new death.
The state reported 38,410 hospitalizations up from 38,314 hospitalizations a day earlier. That represents an increase of 96 new hospitalizations over the previous day, which is also one of the lowest increases in weeks.
State health officials also reported a total of 3,792 current hospitalization with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, up from 3,855 current hospitalizations a day earlier.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 156,559 cases of the virus as of Sunday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 70,950 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 41,865 cases.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 37,013 cases of the virus while Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 35,770 cases of the virus.
