Guardians of Rescue Seek Support to Help Injured Dog

The Guardians of Rescue are raising funds to pay for orthopedic surgery for dog tossed from moving truck...

Each day on the streets of Miami-Dade County, there are dogs routinely thrown from vehicles, as their owners dump them out on city streets, rural roads, and anywhere they feel they can get away with it. The dogs are left for dead, trying to fend for themselves, often with injuries and to starve. Roo is one of those recent victims, as he was tossed like a bag of trash out of a moving truck on side road near a farm. The brutal incident left him with two front broken legs and in desperate need of a specialist to perform orthopedic surgery. That’s when the Guardians of Rescue stepped into action.

"While we like to think that dog is man’s best friend, there are many who suffer greatly at the hands of man,” says Dori Scofield, vice president of Guardians of Rescue, an animal rescue organization. “Roo is a prime example of that. He is in very bad shape. He has two fractured elbows from landing on his front feet. This orthopedic surgery will allow him to walk again. ”

Roo, who is only 6 months old, was rescued by Redland Rock Pit Abandoned Dogs Project, and they contacted the Guardians of Rescue members for help. He was dumped and left for dead in the Redlands area of Miami-Dade County, which is an agriculture area in the Southwest that is considered a common dumping ground for unwanted animals. Thousands of animals have been abandoned in that area over the years. Roo is currently a veterinary office awaiting surgery where a specialist will re-break the legs, set them properly, and then pin them for healing. He sustained the two broken front legs from the impact of being thrown from the moving vehicle. At this point he cannot walk and he must sit upright to help avoid extreme pain. He needs the surgery as soon as possible to repair his legs.

The rescue group has secured a discounted rate of $3,000 for the specialist to perform the surgery. They are seeking donations from animal lovers around the country in order to help Roo, who was left severely injured. Roo is also up for adoption, and will hopefully find a loving family to open their heart and home to let him live out the rest of his life.

“We know that many people want to help animals in need, but they don’t always know where or how to go about doing it,” adds Scofield. “Donating to help Roo get this surgery is a great way to help an animal in dire need. A little compassion goes a long, long way and will make a world of difference in this dog’s life.”
