MIAMI, FL — The three Miami-Dade buses hit by fire early Sunday morning won't affect service, according to the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works.

The agency's Karla Damian told Patch the three buses had already been taken out of service when the fire erupted shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday morning. See also Fire Sweeps Through 3 Miami-Dade Buses

"It is important to note that these buses were no longer part of the department's active Metrobus fleet and were on track to being surplus buses since they have been retired from the fleet," Damian explained.

The buses were parked in a gated yard under the Metro Rail near NW 33 Avenue and NW 38 Street, according to a spokesperson for Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

"The buses did suffer extensive fire damage," Damian said, adding that the county had planned to sell the buses at auction. They were about 18-years-old.

The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue spokesperson said firefighters had to cut through the fence to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading.

There were no injuries in the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
