Miami-Dade County School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

Monday Aug. 21 is the first day of school in Miami-Dade County. It may be one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers but it's party time for moms and dads. The Miami-Dade County Public School District has released other important dates in its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

Every Wednesday students in elementary schools (Grades 2-5) and K-8 Centers (Grades 2-8) are released one hour early.

August

• 8/17: Teacher Planning Day
• 8/18: Teacher Planning Day
• 8/21: First Day of School

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)
• 9/21: No School for Students (Teacher Planning Day)
• 9/28: Secondary Early Release Day

October

• 10/2: No School for Students (Teacher Planning Day, District-wide Professional Development Day)
• 10/26: End of First Grading Period
• 10/27: No School for Students (Teacher Planning Day, District-wide Professional Development Day)
• 10/30: Start of Second Grading Period

November

• 11/10: No School (Veterans' Day)
• 11/22: No School for Students (Teacher Planning Day)
• 11/23 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving)

December

• 12/25 - 1/5: No School (Winter Recess)

January

• 1/1 - 1/5: No School (Winter Recess)
• 1/15: No School (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday)
• 1/18: End of First Semester and Second Grading Period
• 2/19: No School for Students (Teacher Planning Day)
• 2/22: Start of Second Semester and Third Grading Period

February

• 2/15: Early Release Day
• 2/19: No School (Presidents Day)

March

• 3/22: End of Third Grading Period
• 3/23: No School for Students (Teacher Planning Day)
• 3/26 - 3/30: No School (Spring Recess)

April

• 4/2: Start of Fourth Grading Period
