Miami-Dade Police Lieutenant, Ex-Wife Accused Of Fraud: Report
A Miami-Dade police lieutenant and his ex-wife have been charged with organized fraud, filing false insurance claims and grand theft.

MIAMI, FL - A Miami-Dade police lieutenant and his ex-wife have been charged with organized fraud, filing false insurance claims and grand theft, according to Miami-Dade police Director Juan Perez.
Lt. Alexander Diaz de Villegas and his ex-wife, Barbara Diaz de Villegas have been arrested. The officer is accused of filing false home insurance claims.
Diaz de Villegas filed a police report on Oct. 31, 2016, claiming that his ex-wife, who is a licensed public adjuster in Florida, had forged his signature on several documents related to a 2015 insurance claim that had been filed for damages that occurred inside his home, Local 10 News reported.

The officer also claimed his ex-wife forged the endorsements on several settlement checks totaling more than $25,000 issued by Citizens Property Insurance. Diaz de Villegas told police that he had been out of town from Sept. 4 to Sept. 9, 2015, but forged contracts were submitted to Citizens for his claim, according to an arrest warrant.
The officer later admitted that he knew the documents sent to Citizens for an alleged water claim were fraudulent. The lieutenant never notified Citizens and benefited from the fraud, Local 10 News reported.
