National Tequila Day 2019: Where To Celebrate Around Miami
If you've been known to make a few bad decisions from time to time there's no better celebration of them than National Tequila Day.
MIAMI, FL — If you've been known to make a few bad decisions from time to time — and who hasn't — there's no better celebration of them than National Tequila Day, which this year falls on Wednesday, July 24.
Distilled tequila dates back to the 16th century, according to the Mexican Chamber of the Tequila Industry, which says some tequila is made from 100 percent agave while other tequila is made from a mix of sugars in which at least 51 percent come from Blue Agave Tequilana Weber.
"Tilt the glass forward with a white tablecloth as background and observe the color of the aged and extra-aged tequilas," the chamber advises. "Silver tequilas, with some exceptions, are crystal clear. Aged tequilas have a coloring is a hay yellow with different intensities and their sparkles or glitters are gold. Extra-aged tequilas tend to have an amber color with different intensities and with copper sparkles."

Like any fine wine, good tequila also gives off specific scents.
"Draw your nose to the glass and inhale deeply to perceive the primary aromas of tequila," said the chamber. "Rotate the glass to appreciate the secondary scents that are released thanks to the movement."

Silver tequila should carry herbal, citric, agave, fresh fruit and floral notes. Aged tequila carries notes of agave, ripe fruit, wood and spices while extra-aged tequila should smell of dried fruit, wood, honey, vanilla, olives and spices.
"The olfactory test is complemented when a small amount of tequila is sipped, is retained in your mouth for a few seconds and is expelled," said the chamber. "With your mouth closed, exhale the air through the nose and you will still sense the aromas with a few changes caused by the chemistry of the inside of your mouth."
Of course being Americans, we can always just lick some salt, throw back a shot of any old tequila and suck on a lime as we contemplate life.
