PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL — At the end of December, officials from the Republican Party of Florida suggested that once former Pres. Donald Trump moved back to Florida, an airport could be named in his honor, WBTV reported.

Likely one in South Florida, perhaps the Palm Beach International Airport, close to Trump’s Mar-A-Lago Club in the town of Palm Beach, suggested Christian Ziegler, Florida GOP chair and Sarasota county commissioner.

“Seems like a no brainer to have the airport just down the road from the Winter White House be named after President Trump,” Ziegler told WBTV. “I - and clearly the majority of voters in the State of Florida - would love to see our President land at the Donald J. Trump International Airport on Jan. 20, 2025, after finishing eight years in office.”

The Daily Beast also reported that Trump asked aides and advisors about how to get an airport named after him.

Trump defeated Pres. Joe Biden in Florida during the Nov. 3 presidential election, winning the state’s 29 electoral votes.

Palm Beach County commissioners recently told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel that they don’t support renaming their local airport, the Palm Beach International Airport, after Trump.

The newspaper reached out to all seven Palm Beach commissioners. Five responded that that they don't intend to rename the airport. Two didn't respond at all.

County Commissioner Melissa McKinlay told the Sun-Sentinel that the Trump brand name is “better-suited for his golf courses, not our airport.”

She also said that Ziegler should “stick to renaming his own county facilities, not ours.”

GOP state House Rep. Anthony Sabatini (R-Howie-in-the-Hills) has also said he plans to sponsor an amendment renaming U.S. 27 the Donald J. Trump Highway. The 481-mile highway runs the length of the state, north to south, from Gasden County to Miami-Dade County.
