FLORIDA — While most Floridians worry about crime, the 10 communities named the state's safest cities in 2021 ranged from small, less-affluent towns to larger upscale cities with median incomes topping $100,000, according to crime statistics analyzed by SafeWise.

SafeWise, a security product review platform, ranked more than 50 cities in 2021 using recent crime statistics and data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation. SafeWise also included demographic information and the results of its State of Safety research study.

"Daily levels of concern have risen year over year since 2019. ... This year, we saw a 10 percent drop in Floridians who’ve reported experiencing property crime in the last 12 months. But of those same respondents, we saw the amount of those who experienced gun violence in the last year more than double," according to SafeWise.

Its 2021 State of Safety survey found that Florida is among the most concerned states in the country, ranking the state at No. 6 in the nation for this criteria. Of respondents from the Sunshine State, 59 percent said they feel daily concern for their safety. Only 49 percent said they feel safe in their state.

The rankings are intended to highlight cities with low crime rates and to inspire municipalities to talk about how they can make cities safer, according to the SafeWise website.
