'Miami Vice' Star Don Johnson Open To Remake

STUDIO CITY, CA — Don Johnson, star of the 80s smash TV show "Miami Vice" said Monday he would consider appearing in a reboot of the classic. Variety reported back in August that NBC had a possible remake in the works. The original is often credited with jump-starting the Miami tourism industry.

Appearing on the "The Talk," Johnson told host and moderator Julie Chen that he didn't realize how popular the show had become until the second season of "Miami Vice," when he was filming a scene in New York City that required him to run through the streets.

"As we're running down the street, I feel something falling out off the sky and I don't know what it really is," recalled Johnson, who noted that the director offered an explanation afterward.

"The director turned to me and said those are panties flying out of the windows as we were running down the street — not three or four — we're talking a couple of thousand. Somebody started it, and it got trending real quick. Actually I couldn't believe it."

C0-host Eve asked Johnson if we would consider doing a reboot of the classic.

"I would certainly consider it. I've thought it about often," he said. "But what I am talking about is a revival of "Nash Bridges," his CBS show that followed his role as Miami-Dade Detective Sonny Crockett.

NBC did not immediately respond to a Patch request for an update on the reboot.

Johnson said the "Nash Bridges" show was among the first for Leslie Moonves after being named president and chairman of CBS.

"It was his first show there and it seemed to work out for both of us," according to Johnson.
