Suspicious Package Rendered Safe At Miami Beach Post Office

Miami Beach police said that the Miami-Dade Police Department Bomb Squad "rendered the package safe" after closing nearby roads.

MIAMI BEACH, FL — Traffic was rerouted around a Miami Beach post office for a time Monday in response to what police described as a suspicious package. The incident unfolded at the U.S. Post Office at 525 71 Street. Postal workers were evacuated from the building as a precaution, nearby streets were closed and a daycare facility was placed on lockdown.

Miami Beach police said that the Miami-Dade Police Department Bomb Squad "rendered the package safe and deemed there is no public threat" around 11 a.m.

It was not clear what caused the package to be deemed suspicious.

Police closed the 7100 block of Carlyle Avenue along with 71 Street between Abbott and Dickens Avenue. Police also closed a nearby parking lot and placed The Happy Kids preschool on lockdown as a precaution.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the scene.
