Bearss Wawa Now Open
Deputies, firefighters joined the festivities by taking part in a hoagie building contest.

Residents in the Lutz and North Tampa areas have a new place to stop for gas and a quick bite to eat. The 804 E. Bearss Ave. Wawa officially opened its doors Thursday.
Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies and Fire Rescue personnel were on hand for the festivities. They also took part in Wawa’s traditional “Finest vs. Bravest” Hoagie Building Contest.
During the event, firefighters and law enforcement officers compete to see who can make the most sandwiches in a 3-minute time period. The winning team gets a donation from Wawa for the charity of their choice.

The battle was deemed a tie, the sheriff’s office reported. A $1,000 donation was made to the county’s Lynn Sowers Foundation, which helps police officers and their families in times of crisis.
