Flatwoods Park Maintenance Closings Planned

Sections of Flatwoods Wilderness Regional Park will be off limits as maintenance at the park gets under way.

Tampa, FL — Tampa Bay area residents who like spend lazy summer afternoons soaking up the beauty of Flatwoods Wilderness Regional Park might want to jot a few dates down on their calendars.

Hillsborough County has announced a major maintenance project is set to begin July 11 and is expected to continue into August. The project includes maintenance on the entrance roadways, the 7-mile trail loop, roadway shoulders and paving of the trail and parking areas.

While the park will remain open throughout the project, closings of different trail sections, parking areas and entrances are planned on a staggered basis. The closings are as follows:

  • July 11-15 – South loop closing. The North loop will remain open.
  • July 18-22 – The Morris Bridge entrance and parking area will close. The Bruce B. Downs entrance and parking areas will remain open.
  • Aug. 1-5 – The Bruce B. Downs entrance and parking areas will close. The Morris Bridge entrance and parking areas will remain open.
  • Aug. 8-12 – The Bruce B. Downs parking area and entrance will close. The Morris Bridge entrance and parking area will remain open.
