ICYMI: Sheriff to ISIS: 'You Fight One of Us, You Fight All of Us'

Flagler County Sheriff James Manfre isn't taking ISIS threats against residents in stride.

When ISIS posted an online request last week for its sympathizers to kill 100 U.S. military service members who purportedly participated in attacks on the terrorist organization, one Florida sheriff issued a call to action of his own.

“We do not want to allow ISIS to spread terror in our community, yet we are going to make sure that we remain vigilant and let them understand that you fight one of us, you fight all of us,” Flagler County Sheriff James Manfre was quoted by News4Jax as saying.

Manfre is just one of several Florida sheriffs to learn in recent days that members of their communities are named on that list of 100 released by ISIS, the station reported. Other Floridians called out by name reside in St. Johns, Brevard and Clay counties, among others. The list also contains the names of military personnel from across the country.

The latest online threat from ISIS includes the names, photos and supposed addresses of 100 people who allegedly participated in American action against the Islamic State in such locations as Yemen, Syria and Iraq, The New York Times reported. The list, U.S. Department of Defense and FBI officials told the paper, appears to have been created using public records and social media websites.

“With the huge amount of data we have from various different servers and databases, we have decided to leak 100 addresses so that our brothers in America can deal with you,” the ISIS web posting stated, according to the Times. “And now we have made it easy for you by giving you addresses, all you need to do is take the final step, so what are you waiting for?”

In Flagler County and other locations where residents have been threatened, law enforcement officials are not taking the news lightly.

Manfre has increased patrols and is working with the FBI to monitor information. In Brevard County, military families are being urged to exercise caution on social media, Florida Today reported. MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa has also told its personnel to do the same, News Talk Florida reported.

This isn’t the first time since ISIS’ emergence that MacDill personnel have been cautioned about potential threats. Last October, MacDill sent out an email warning families of jihadist threats. That email warned of “an aggressive social media campaign by terrorist organizations that intends to obtain large amounts of military related information they can use to target DoD (the U.S. Department of Defense).”

In January, Tampa-based U.S. Central Command also had its Twitter and YouTube accounts hijacked by apparent ISIS sympathizers.

ISIS has also claimed responsibility for several highly publicized beheadings of Americans and other prisoners released via YouTube. Last September, the group beheaded Florida journalist Steven Sotloff.
