PortMiami Tunnel Opens Monday, Report Says
The Miami port tunnel is scheduled to open Monday, becoming the second public subterranean roadway in Florida.
Road access to one of the world’s largest cruise ship ports is expected get a little easier, come Monday.
The Miami port tunnel to PortMiami will open at 6 a.m. on Monday, The Miami Herald reports.
For decades, freight trucks used side streets to access the port via the Port Boulevard Bridge, opposite the AmericanAirlines Arena.

But the sight of the truckers in Miami inner city streets is expected to become a memory of the past.
A highway spur is built into the road bed of Interstate 195/MacArthur Causeway leading to the tunnel, providing direct highway access from Interstate 95 to PortMiami for the first time in its history.

As many as 16,000 vehicles daily are expected to traverse the tunnel, taken from downtown Miami roads, according to the Herald.
The $1 billion tunnel will become only the second subterranean public road in the Florida when it opens.
