Rumor Led to Wharton Lockdown

An all-clear to resume classes as normal at Wharton High School was issued Wednesday morning following a two-hour lockdown.

The campus was put on high alert after a student reported hearing a rumor about a gun on campus, school officials said. A search was conducted, but no weapon was found.

Lockdowns have occurred at a number of area schools since the academic year began. In nearby Land O’ Lakes, three schools were recently locked down following a report of a student with a gun.
