Bodycam Footage Of Miami-Dade Police Shooting Released

Miami-Dade police have released the footage showing the shooting of Jahmal Parker, who had grabbed a cop's Taser.

MIAMI, FL — Miami-Dade police have released the bodycam footage of the police shooting of Jahmal Parker, which shows the 29-year-old man grabbing a cop's taser before being shot in the leg. The March 29 incident began when police and emergency services responded to a roadway between Key Largo and Florida City after Parker crashed his car, which was submerged.

The orginial footage starts at 12:17 p.m. after responders saved Parker from the wreckage. Soon after four minutes into the video, Parker begins refusing medical care, though his mental state is unknown.

The two cops involved were Richard Bellon, 34, Ronald Neubauer, 54. They and emergency responders were gathered around Parker behind an ambulance. They tell Parker, of Pompano Beach, to sit down several times, but he refuses.

"I'm good," Parker said.

"You're not. You're bleeding. Look at your hands," one officer said. "This isn't, like, what you think it is. You just need to sit down right now," they said to Parker, who again refused.

After some time of him refusing to sit down, one officer pulled out a Taser. "Sit down or you're gonna get lit up, he said. "You're gonna sit down one way or another."

Patch wasn't able to immediately obtain and original copy of the bodycam footage. See the Miami Herald for the footage.

The officer with the bodycam then moved to Parker's side and said "Sit down, dude. Do yourself a favor and sit down." He reached out and gently patted Parker's upper left arm.

That's when Parker reached out toward the cop with the bodycam and grabbed his Taser from his belt. Police activated a Taser, but it's unknown whether it hit Parker. If it did, it seemed to have little or no effect on the 250-pound man.

Parker moved around towards the front of the ambulance and the officer with the bodycam followed. Parker is seen pointing the Taser at the officer. "Drop it! Drop it now!" the officer yelled an instant before shooting at Parker.

Six shots were fired, Parker fell down and began screaming. As police approached Parker to handcuff him, a gunshot wound is visible in his upper left leg.

Parker was then taken to Jackson South Community Hospital, where he was in stable condition. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and related offenses.
