Plus, "Dunedin is new to the district — or to area that was once District 48," explained Zimmermann, a Democrat.

District 48 was redrawn to incorporate Dunedin as District 65 after the 2012 U.S. Census results were released. The Florida legislature must redraw Congressional and state legislative lines every 10 years. The process can take a year or more.

"It's good to be located in a municipality," Zimmermann said. "I'm really excited about it, and I'm really excited about just the position itself."

He said he is working with several local museums on obtaining historic photographs from each of the areas represented in District 65 — Tarpon Springs, Dunedin and Palm Harbor — to be hung in his office.

He said he enjoys looking at old photographs, and stopped short of saying he could stare at them for hours.

He intends to host an open house toward the end of January or the beginning of February.

Zimmermann's office is at 1106 Pinehurst Road in Dunedin. Call 727-733-8267.
