Geography

Covid 19 highlights the separation in our country. We stretch from the alarmist to the deniers and Health vs Economy. All can point to local situations that prove their stance. Some areas feel nothing is happening while others watch multiple family members or friends fight for every breath in a hospital ICU room and unfortunately sometimes moved to their final resting place. How do these diametrically opposed views happen?

GEOGRAPHY.

Rural, urban, snow, rain, sun, cold, warm, broadband internet access, education quality, taxes, traffic, rich, poor, housing, cost of living, laws, local demographics, employment opportunities, news outlets, local government, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, flooding, desert, costal, etc.……

A person’s zip code determines all of the above. There is no way a personal understanding is the same with such diverse experiences.

So, how do we improve that understanding?

Empathy – The capacity to understand or feel what another person is experiencing.

But if we are divided by Geography, how do we accomplish that? It takes an effort. Without that effort, nothing will improve. Let’s put that energy we have used to divide and put that into understanding our fellow neighbors on this rock floating through space (flat-earth societies not included).
