2,977 people died in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack, a true national tragedy. COVID 19 killed 3,011 Americans on Wednesday Dec. 9th, the most yet in any single day of the pandemic, yet it seems like just another day.
2,403 died at Pearl Harbor Dec 7th, 1941. Dec 3rd, 2020, saw 2,857 COVID 19 deaths. Will that day live in infamy as well? Maybe....
Over the past seven days, 15,743 Americans have died from COVID-19, even as our mortality rate is going down. Thankfully we have gotten better at treating this virus. We have a vaccine coming, but to be clear, the vaccine is not a U.S. phenomenon. Europe, England, Israel, Russia and China are already vaccinating their citizens.
Why is it so easy to ignore? Is it too nightmarish to believe, 290,000 Covid-19 deaths so far? Some look for excuses to deny or deflect attention away from this horror show playing out every day in this country?
I’d like to take a moment to call out one, our official Palm Harbor community contributor that has added the local pieces of information this last month with titles like, “You know you are getting older when…” and today, “Talking to yourself.” Let’s not forget back in March he brought us, “The show must go on!” where he informed us, “the biggest difference between the 2009-2010 Swine Flu Pandemic and the 2020 COVID-19 panic is that 2009-2010 was not a presidential election year. Hmm, must be nothing more than a coincidence, right?”
Where is Tim Bryce with his great corporate wisdom and glass half-full insight? Nowhere to be found…….
Wear a mask, wash your hands and socially distance like our lives depend on it, because they do. Nobody likes it, just do it. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but that could be 6 months away.
