Palm Harbor School Crossing Guard Struck By Car On Curlew Road

PALM HARBOR, FL — A school crossing guard was taken to the hospital after being struck by a car while placing cones on Curlew Road to prepare to help Curlew Creek Elementary School children cross.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, at 2:32 p.m. Friday, 61-year-old Robert Reese of Palm Harbor was driving his 2016 Ford Fusion north on Countryside Boulevard North, approaching Curlew Road, when he stopped for a red light.

In the meantime, 63-year-old Pinellas County school crossing guard Susan Creamer had entered the crosswalk on Curlew Road from the southeast corner of Countryside Boulevard North to place traffic cones along the curb in preparation for the dismissal of Curlew Creek Elementary School.

During a break in eastbound traffic, Reese turned right onto Curlew Road and the passenger-side mirror of the Fusion struck Creamer, causing her to fall to the ground. Creamer was wearing her crossing guard uniform, traffic safety vest and orange uniform hat at the time of the accident.

Creamer remained alert after the fall but was injured. She was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where she remains hospitalized.
