PALM HARBOR, FL -- When it comes to 21st-century technology, the robotics team at Palm Harbor University High School has the future well in hand.

The school's robotics team, 3101 Boom Bots, was crowned world champions at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics World Championship April 16-20 in Houston, Texas.

During the championship round held in front of a crowd of 40,000 spectators in the Minute Maid Baseball Stadium, Palm Harbor University High School proved it has the right stuff when it comes to ground-breaking robotics technology.

The four-day competition at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston featured 160 of the world's best FIRST Tech Challenge teams. The 3101 Boom Bots competed in three days of qualification matches and judging interviews, ultimately defeating the two-year returning world champions in a 2-0 series.

Approximately 200 teams compete in the FIRST Tech Challenge across Florida and 7,000 teams across the world are active competitors.
