Pier Closed at Pop Stansell Park

Some of the screws on the Pop Stansell pier have rusted from salt water, according to CSA Palm Harbor Director Erica Lynford.

CSA Palm Harbor Parks and Recreation closed the pier at Pop Stansell Park last Thursday. It will remain closed until repairs are made, according to CSA Palm Harbor director Erica Lynford.

"There's definite concerns for repairs there," said Lynford. "The county came out and walked the pier. Apparently, stainless steel screws weren't used when it was put together originally 10 or 11 years ago."

Lynford says some of the screws have rusted out from the salt water.

She says the county might help with repairs. It's unclear at this point how long repairs will take and who will pay for them.

The pier at Pop Stansell is a popular place to fish. Pop Stansell Park is located at the corner of 8th Street and Florida Avenue.
