Why aren’t we scared “To Death” by a pandemic?

Should we be scared of Covid-19? Or should we just have an abundance of caution.

Man coughing
Man coughing

Be honest, “If a person has a coughing fit (without a mask on) while shopping in Wal-Mart, would you run over and comfort them?” Be honest.

If there was a water main break and the local government said “boil your water” would you?
If a chemical company exploded in town and the government said “stay inside” would you?
If a wildfire was coming your way and the government said “evacuate” would you?
If a pandemic killed 418,000 and the president said “it’s like the flu” would you worry?

Where did we go so wrong? Is it because we can’t see it? Is it because it sometimes kills and maims using secondary illnesses caused by its harmful effects? Sometimes people have no symptoms? Some people really do have flu-like symptoms?
