According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, at 9:30 p.m., 13-year-old Grace Fitzpatrick and a friend were attempting to cross the road. A northbound vehicle was stopped in the left-hand lane to allow the girls to cross to reach a gas station to purchase a phone charger.
Deputies said the girls ran across the road outside the designated crosswalk. Jefrey Hardman, 31, of Ohio, who was traveling north in the right-hand lane in a Nissan Sentra, didn't see the girls and struck Fitzpatrick.
