Pinellas Looking for Lifeguards during Beach Season

Full-time and part-time seasonal jobs still available.

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL – Beach season is in full swing, and Pinellas County is looking for lifeguards to help keep swimmers, kayakers, body-surfers, and paddle boarders safe.

Positions are available for full-time and part-time seasonal employment for lifeguard duty the three county beaches at Sand Key, Fred Howard, and Fort De Soto parks. Starting pay is set at $12.55 per hour and shifts are 10 hours per day. Beach season began in March and ends September 19.

Candidates must pass two physical agility pre-hire tests: Swim 500 meters in less than 10 minutes and complete a 1-mile run in less than eight minutes.

Other requirements for the positions include:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to work any county beach parks as schedule and staffing demands
  • Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency and/or disaster situations
  • Must have a valid Florida driver license
  • Must have an American Red Cross or equivalent current lifeguarding certification
  • Must have an American Red Cross or equivalent current CPR/AED for professional rescuers and health care providers.
  • Must have an American Red Cross or equivalent current first aid certification
  • Must have three months of responsible lifeguard experience within the last five years.

  • Current first responder, EMT or paramedic certification
  • Coast Guard boating safety certification (eight hours)
