TREASURE ISLAND, FL – A small plane made an emergency landing near Bilmar Beach Resort in Treasure Island Sunday morning, WTSP reported.

The pilot of the single-engine Piper PA-28 was forced to land on the beach after her engine died, reports said. The plane hit a small pole as it came down.

Two people were on board and neither needed medical attention, reports said.

A firefighter with Treasure Island Fire Department who didn’t provide his name said that TIFD was the primary agency to respond to the scene. The department was joined by other emergency rescue agencies, he said. The Treasure Island Fire public information officer is off Sunday and unavailable for additional comments, he added.

David Carroll, the manager of Sloppy Joe’s on the Beach at 10650 Gulf Blvd. in Treasure Island, said, “Basically, it was an emergency landing. The pilot (is) sitting out back on the airplane right now. It doesn’t look like any damage or anything.”

It made for an exciting morning on the beach, he added. “It’s great marketing for us. (The pilot) literally flew in for our Bloody Mary’s and breakfast this morning.”
