This Week on The Beaches: Beach Beast 5K, Tackle Show, Save the Snakes?

Here's what you need to know this week on the beaches!

Beach Beast 5K: There's still time to sign up for the 5K on Saturday, August 24 in St. Pete Beach. The Postcard Inn is hosting the "Beach Beast 5K" which is a 5K obstacle course. For more information call The Postcard Inn at (727) 367-2711.

Love Antiques?: The Dolphin Beach Resort is hosting an Antique Fishing Tackle Show, Sale and Auction on Friday, August 23 starting at 9 a.m. Admission is $5. For more information call The Dolphin Beach Resort at (727) 360-7011.

Save the Snakes?: Three species of snake – the short-tailed, pine snake and hognose – once prevalent in Central Florida are now rather rare sightings. The state wants the federal government to add them to the endangered species list and it’s asking for residents’ help to make it so. Check out the story on TBO to find out how to report sightings of these rare, elusive and often unwelcomed critters.

Buses Back in Action: A brand new school year gets under way this week and that means an army of yellow buses will be hitting the streets of Tampa Bay. Keep an eye out for them and the precious cargo they’re trucking around. To all the kids out there: Have a great year!

Scattered Thunderstorms: Looks like it'll be partly sunny with a high of 91. We also have a 40 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms - mainly after 2 p.m. For a complete look at this week's forecast, check out the National Weather Service.
