1 Killed, Several Injured At Birthday Party In Plant City

Sixty people were at a family gathering that turned violent and killed one person, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

PLANT CITY, FL — A 25-year-old man was killed at a family gathering that turned violent on Sunday in Plant City, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Sixty people were at a birthday party held inside a rental barn in the 5000 block of WO Griffin Road, investigators said. An argument occurred before 12:30 a.m. that resulted in gunshot exchange.

The 25-year-old was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital where he died, authorities said. Three other people experienced non-life-threatening injuries.

"A birthday celebration meant to be enjoyed was instead a nightmare," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. "Our detectives are conducting multiple interviews and processing the scene to determine what led to this violent encounter that ended with the loss of a life."
