Construction Open House Set For Sam Allen Road Widening Project
The open house will take place Thursday, Oct. 3, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Bruton Memorial Library, 302 W. McLendon St., Plant City.
PLANT CITY, FL — The Florida Department of Transportation will hold a construction open houseto discuss ongoing improvements to Sam Allen Road (County Road 580).
The open house will take place Thursday, Oct. 3, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Bruton Memorial Library, 302 W. McLendon St., Plant City.
The project involves the widening and reconstruction of Sam Allen Road from west of State Road 39A (Paul Buchman Highway) to east of Park Road. The improvements for the 2-mile project include widening the existing two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway with a raised median, sidewalks, bicycle lanes, and underground drainage.

The $23.2 million project started in November 2018 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2021.

There will be no formal presentation. Residents are invited to drop in at their convenience to review the project display boards and talk with project staff.
To accommodate the construction, the intersection of Paul Buchman Highway and Sam Allen Road is currently closed to all through-traffic. The intersection is expected to be closed until late November. Access to businesses and homes will be maintained.
The intersection is closed for various construction activities, including replacement of the CSX railroad tracks, utility relocations and roadway construction.
Buchman Highway through-traffic is being detoured to Alexander Street (State Road 39), using Monroe and Franklin streets.
Sam Allen Road through-traffic is being detoured using Alexander, Franklin and Monroe streets, Buchman Highway, North Frontage Road and Park Road.
Detour signs are in place to assist motorists through the detours. Motorists should expect heavier than normal traffic on these roads during this closure.
