Orlando Man Dies After Rear-Ending Fire Truck On I-4
A 26-year-old Orlando man is in critical condition following a crash on Interstate 4 at Branch Forbes Road over the weekend.
PLANT CITY, FL – A 26-year-old Orlando man has died following a crash on Interstate 4 at Branch Forbes Road over the weekend.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2016 Toyota Corolla was traveling west on I-4 east of Branch Forbes Road in the inside lane behind a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Engine 26A driven by Clayton Eugene Horne, 41, of Plant City.
The fire truck was responding to a vehicle crash in the median of I-4 at 7:16 a.m. Saturday, July 21. The truck slowed down and stopped along the inside paved lane at the crash site with emergency lights activated.

As the fire rescue crew got out of the fire truck, the Toyota failed to stop and collided with the rear of the fire truck.
None of the fire crew were injured but the driver of the Toyota, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.
