Preparing for high school is an exciting time! The St. Johns County School District VIRTUAL High School Showcase will occur on Tuesday, January 12, 2021… That is NEXT week! This event highlights special Programs of Choice available for rising 9th and 10th grade students at each of the eight high schools in the St. Johns County School District. Members of higher education from First Coast Technical College and St. Johns River State College will also be available to answer questions about their programs. The resources provided are to assist families in understanding their options and how to apply for programs of interest.

Because we recognize that this can be confusing and difficult to navigate, here is a general timeline of what to expect from now through February:

January 5th

In school this week students in 8th grade have been shown an overview of the Programs of Choice available at each of the high schools.

January 5th – January 14th

Career Specialists will visit each middle school to answer student questions.

January 8th

Students will bring home the Program of Choice guide book and a flyer which provides important dates and application process information. These documents are also available on the CTE website.

January 8th– February 5th

Programs of Choice Application Window (*Please note that the application window closes on February 5th by 5:00pm. Once an application is submitted, within 48 hours a confirmation email is sent to the email on file in the school system database. If you have any concerns about your application or if you do not receive a confirmation, please contact the Career and Technical Education Office at 547-4870 before the application window closes.)

January 12th

VIRTUAL High School Showcase 3:30-7:00

3:30-4:30

Watch the welcome video, explore exhibit pages and watch videos located on the exhibitor pages. There is also a place to message general questions on the agenda page.

4:30-6:30

Live ZOOM sessions occur, participants may message questions to teachers, student ambassadors and career specialists for discussion. Guests of the ZOOM may enter and exit as desired. Guest participants will be on mute but may type in their questions for moderator responses.

6:30-7:00

Visit any additional places in the event you want to visit

Event ends

A recording of the event will be posted on the CTE website after January 12th .

January 29th

SAHS and MMS SJCCA Auditions will take place at the respective schools. Visit: SJCCA.org for more information.

February 5th

The application window closes at 5:00pm

Last week of February

Notifications will be emailed identifying Programs of Choice placement outcomes. Most students are placed during this time, however there is limited space in many programs. If a student is not placed in any of their 1st, 2nd or 3rd choices, the student is added to a waitlist. The CTE department continues to work through the waitlist throughout the summer. All decisions are finalized before July 1st. Late applications are only considered during the late application window for new students and for students applying to programs which can accommodate growth.
