Backpacks, Bucs Blackout and Powerball

Here's what's going on in and around Safety Harbor today.

Help Stuff Backpacks For The Back to School Bash!

The Mattie Williams Neighborhood Family Center is hosting its 12th annual Back to School Bash this Saturday at Safety Harbor City Park. But before the center can give out the free backpacks filled with school supplies to registered kids, they need help stuffing the packs! Volunteers should show up today at the Safety Harbor Elementary School music room between 9:30 and noon to lend a hand.

The payoff is up to $400 million for tonight's Powerball drawing. For folks thinking of buying a ticket at the same Publix where Gloria Mackenzie bought the ticket that won the $590 million jackpot, here are 11 things more likely to happen than winning Powerball. But, if you still need to get a ticket here are nearby locations selling tickets on the Florida Lottery website.

Bucs Game Blacked Out

If you were hoping to catch Thursday night's Buccaneers preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, there's bad news. The game will be blacked out locally, according to TBO.com. You can watch a replay on WFLA at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night.

The good news is that there are plenty, and we mean plenty of good seats still available.

Runners Unite at Copperheads Tap House on Wednesday Night

Are you a runner, either casual or hardcore? If so you should head to Copperheads Tap House on Main Street Wednesdays at 6:00 for the weekly gathering of the Safety Harbor Athletic Club. The group meets at the downtown bar for a 3-6 mile walk/jog/run that is a great way to mingle with fellow runners while exercising at your own pace. Of course pints at the pub follow the workout!

Want To Boo A-Rod?

Alex Rodriguez, who received a 211 game suspension from baseball, gets to play while he appeals the ruling. If you're looking for a chance to join thousands of other people at a stadium and yell your displeasure at him, you might get your chance at Tropicana Field ina few weeks. The Yankees play the Rays at The Trop starting on Aug. 23. Surely, we'll have seen some clever signs and chants from other fans by then.
