Beer & Burger Throw Down 2016 Set for April 16

Safety Harbor event seeks to find the Best Burger in Pinellas.

SAFETY HARBOR, FL – The Tampa Bay area is becoming known for its local hamburger joints and craft beer companies. Safety Harbor is looking to pit these establishments against each other in a battle of the Bay.

The Safety Harbor Marina, 110 Veterans Memorial Lane, will host the Beer & Burger Throw Down on Saturday, April 16 from 2 to 8 p.m. The event will offer several tasting opportunities from local burger joints with samples for $3 or less and several different types of craft brews for patrons to sample.

Entry is $5 cash at the gate. Active military and children younger than 12 are free. Parking is also free for the event.

The city-wide burger and beer tasting starts at 2 p.m. A panel of celebrity judges will vote on the categories “Best of Pinellas Burger” and “Best use of Bacon.” Winners will be announced at 5 p.m. and receive a trophy and a free spot in the 2017 Beer & Burger Throw Down.

Members of the celebrity panel includes:

  • Roxanne Wilder, host of the Current
  • June Knight, host on 99.5 WQYK
  • Cadillac Jack, host on 99.5 WQYK
  • Paula Street, Host on Q105
  • Orlando, Host on 94.1 WILD

The Beer & Burger Throw Down will also feature a large vendor area of local businesses, artisans and free live entertainment.

The Tampa Bay Sports Fan Zone will feature:

  • Hall of Fame Buccaneers Fan Big Nasty from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • NASCAR’s Cody Lane with his race car
  • The Clearwater Threshers
  • University of Tampa’s Championship Men’s Hockey Team
  • Redbull’s X-Box Couch
  • Free Tampa Bay Storm ticket for the first 300 people

Other activities include:

  • Kid’s Zone with bouncy houses, trampoline jumpers and a rock wall
  • Dog park and agility course sponsored by Dogism of Oldsmar
  • Beer seminars by Crooked Thumb Brewery
  • Live auction
  • Vendor Village
