Cannon Fire Over Safety Harbor!
An 1841 Howitzer was fired from the Safety Harbor Museum and Cultural Center on Sunday as part of a Civil War reenactment drill.

The loud bangs you heard coming from the direction of downtown Safety Harbor on Sunday were not signs of pirates storming Bayshore Boulevard.
No, the noise was courtesy of cannon fire being conducted at the Safety Harbor Museum and Cultural Center as part of a Civil War artillery reenactment drill led by museum historian Scott Anderson.
The group fired blanks from an 1841 Howitzer every half hour between 2-4 Sunday afternoon, much to the sonic delight of those in attendance.
The event wasn't all about making loud noises, though.
Anderson was using the drill to train his squad in proper procedures that need to be followed during reenactments.
"You don't want to be in front of the cannon's barrel whenever it's loaded, even if its only blanks," he advised.
After seeing that big gun go off, complete with a 25-foot solid flame that shoots out of the barrel upon ignition, Anderson didn't need to tell anyone that tip twice.
Check out the video of the blast above. Be warned - it's loud!
