Connor Harris Honored by City Commission
The Safety Harbor teen was given a proclamation by Mayor Ayoub for his heroic action last month.
Connor Harris, the Safety Harbor teen who helped save a choking woman at his work last month, was given a proclamation by the City Commission on Monday night.
Harris, a 17-year-old Countryside High School student, was working as a waiter at Regency Oaks retirement center in Clearwater when a diner began choking.Â
Using his training as a Safety Harbor Fire Explorer, Harris was able to perform the Heimlich maneuver on the woman, most likely saving her life.
"Connor calmly and quickly evaluated the situation...and he performed a rapid assessment of the patient," Mayor Ayoub read from the proclamation.
"There was no hesitation on his part. He immediately did the Heimlich maneuver dislodging the obstruction and preventing certain respiratory arrest, therefore saving her life."
"For this reason, we recognize Connor's life saving performance. Thank you, Connor Harris, for being a hero."
The soft-spoken Harris then thanked the commission, SHFD Chief Accetta and the Explorers program before the mayor presented him with a plaque.
