ICYMI: Burglar Caught Sleeping on the Job

A sleepy Nokomis man found himself in hot water Monday when Sarasota County deputies found him inside a home sleeping next to a bagful of stolen jewelry.

The sheriff’s office was called out to the Nokomis home by a cleaning lady who found him inside.

“Talk about falling asleep on the job,” the sheriff’s office wrote on its Facebook page. The man was still sleeping when deputies arrived. They were able to snap his photo with the loot without him even noticing.

After deputies gave him a rude awakening, Dion Davis, 29, was charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling. He was being held in the Sarasota County Jail Tuesday afternoon in lieu of $10,000 bond, jail records indicate.

The sheriff’s office filed the incident under the hashtag #FloriDUH.
