Pinellas County Will Conduct Routine Water System Maintenance May 16

PINELLAS COUNTY, FL — Pinellas County will conduct a routine maintenance program on the water system to optimize water quality. The method of water treatment will be temporarily changed from chloramine to chlorine disinfection. This will occur from May 16 to June 5.

This change will affect all Pinellas County water customers, as well as the water customers of Clearwater, Pinellas Park and Safety Harbor.

Many utilities using chloramine for water disinfection routinely switch to chlorine for a short period to maintain system integrity.

Customers will not experience low pressure or disruption of service. The water will continue to meet federal and state standards for safe drinking water. The only noticeable change may be a slight difference in the taste or odor of the water.

Kidney dialysis patients should not be impacted, but should contact their dialysis care provider for more information about chlorine treatment. Fish owners should not be affected if they already have a system in place to remove chloramine, but they should contact local pet suppliers with any questions.
