Busy Weekend In Safety Harbor

Third Friday, zombies and the dedication of Mullet Creek Park highlight a packed weekend in town.

Third Friday is normally the highlight of the outdoor weekend activities in Safety Harbor.

But this week the monthly music series serves as a backdrop to a jam-packed three days full of fun and entertainment that kicks off Friday night and runs all the way through Sunday afternoon.

Friday:

-Mayor Joe Ayoub will announce the winners of the 2013 Chair-ity Fundraiser to benefit the Library Foundation beginning at 6 p.m. Twenty-four lucky winners will receive the decorative chairs, followed by a community drum circle to be held under the Baranoff Oak Tree.

The city commissioner is holding an open house at his new real estate office, located on the second floor of the Safety Harbor Square building at 500 Main St. He will be giving away a free iPad as well as a package of goods donated by downstairs neighbor Polished Salon.

"Originally we were going to invite friends, family and clients, but then I realized it was 3rd Friday so I decided to have an open house to let everybody know we're here," Blake said.

-The nationwide Relay For Life cancer awareness walk hits Countryside High School this evening; it begins at 6 p.m. and runs through Saturday morning.

Saturday:

The ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony for Mullet Creek Park takes place at 11 a.m.

City officials will be on hand to officially open the 2.5-acre park on the outskirts of downtown and dedicate the facility in honor of Nadine Nickeson.

"This will be a fun event for everyone marking the addition of a new park and the importance of public greenspaces to our community," Community Planner Ana Mena told Patch.

Sunday:

-Tampa area singer and performer Tiger von Pagel is filming a music video at Philippe Park on Sunday from 10 a.m. til 2 p.m.

Von Pagel has been recruiting residents to play zombies and extras for her video submission to the Carrollwood Idol competition.

While the guest spots were almost filled for the shoot, it might be fun just to head down to the park and see a little "Walking Dead" action right in your own backyard!
