One of the highlights of our Dunedin Food Tour is stopping by Hog Island Fish Camp so were very excited to try owner Walt Wickman's newest spot Water Oak Grill in Safety Harbor.
Safety Harbor has an eclectic assortment of local independent restaurants with just about every cuisine represented and represented well. With so many great choices choosing can be tough. Water Oak Grill is a solid option sure to please all.

The restaurant is lovely and welcoming with indoor and outdoor seating options.
Add to the plethora of cuisine choices the quest for the best / cheapest bloody Mary's or Mimosas and you will find Water Oak is upping the ante.

We recognize some signature Hog Island favorites with some new twists. We have come for the hog fish but are happy to detour with some starters.
Florida shrimp and lobster bisque is loaded with sweet fresh shrimp in a creamy rich bisque. I love the solidness of the added shrimp to the flavorful bisque.

Veering even further away from our go to seafood options we enjoy the seared rib eye carpaccio with arugula, parmesan, capers and lemon vinaigrette.

Water Oak offers other tempting fresh fish choices including today's parrot fish special but we stick with the main event we came for the hog fish sandwich.

We chat about dessert with our friend manager Carly Whikman who we always loved visiting on the Dunedin Food Tour. They have chosen to showcase local favorite Mike's Pies for Water Oak Grill's dessert assortment. To which I say, why reinvent the wheel or in this case key lime pie.

We would have been hard pressed to say a new restaurant in Safety Harbor would pull us away from our go to favorite spots. Fried Chicken -Southern Fresh, BBQ- Bradys, Pizza -Pizzeria Gregario. Water Oak Grill just made the choice easier and harder at the same time. The menu features a good variety to please both land lubbers and seafood fans.

Special of the day fried blue crab crabs.

A chuck and wagyu burger hit the spot.
